Clay Animation

During this field trip, students learn the basics of stop-motion animation and narrative storytelling. Groups design their own clay characters and then produce a short animated film using multimedia tools.

The following clay animation was made by a group of 2nd graders in collaboration with Stage Write, a San Francisco based non-profit that brings theater to public school students. "The Lemon Tree" is a play about a young woman who finds a magical lemon tree; this animation will be played in unison with the original play that will be performed this fall.

This animation was made by group of 6th graders from Sacramento Adventist Academy in Carmichael, California. Watch as the space ship flies through space to land on Mars, only to discover a whole world of creatures awaiting its arrival!

NewsCast

Students work together to create their own news broadcast, learning the basics of the production process while enhancing writing, reading, and music skills. The groups collaborate on the entire project from start to finish: choosing topics, creating scripts, and producing and filming the final product.

This NewsCast was made by 4th and 5th graders from Cresmont Elementary about the recent tiger escape from the San Francisco Zoo. This segment was part of a larger NewsCast, which also featured a weather, sports, and entertainment section.

Music Video

During a music video field trip, students produce videos featuring their own original poetry and music. Before and during the field trip, students engage in each step of the process, working in groups to decide on a concept, create original spoken word poetry, digitally compose their own music, coordinate dance routines, and perform and film the final product.

In this video, middle school students from Contra Costa Country wrote music and lyrics about the budget cuts affecting their school.

This video was made by a group of 6th graders from St. Paul's School in San Francisco. Watch as they rap about the order of operations, or PEMDAS. (You know, parentheses, exponants, muliplication and division, followed by addition and subtraction!!)

Video Blog

Student groups design and develop short, narrated videos to be uploaded to their brand new classroom blog - a living forum that can be continually updated, reshaped and shared by your class throughout the year.

This videoblog was created by high school students from Oakland. This group of students used drawings and audio recordings to tell the story of their families.
